More than two years ago, a couple knocked on us for a piece of furniture, who had an extraordinary and inspiring story to their credit. And it was like this.
In the noble town of Petrykozy, somewhere in the center of time or beyond, Maggie and David decided to live in. With a lot of enthusiasm, positive energy, a whole lot of manual skills and blessed access to the Internet, they decided to build their dream apartment with their own hands. In three months, apart from the necessary, but less pleasant bureaucracy, a handmade frame house with a terrace and an always open gate. Scandinavian style inside, fresh and minimalist with as many handmade elements as possible. We are lucky that Dawid did not build the furniture on his own, because thanks to this, the subject of Wood Republic appeared in this story, hooray!
Their first furniture idea was to modify the DRUPAL.1 cabinet for a gramophone, amplifier and vinyl records. To this concept, we added a drawer in the lower middle module and adjusted the width to the place where the cabinet was to be placed. We know from a direct source that there is now a fireplace there, and Drupal has already moved, but this is probably what a creative approach to home furnishing is all about. And because even online contact can transmit good energy, we immediately sensed a similar temperament in these two and without thinking we went merrily to the edge of the world with DRUPAL in the trunk.
The decision to deliver the furniture right under the nose was fruitful not only in meeting cool people. DRUPAL was accepted into the family, and I think we immediately started talking about another idea for a chest of drawers under the washbasin for the bathroom, which, perversely, is not tiled, but a lot of wood in it. We have designed a simple, symmetrical chest of drawers with plenty of useful storage space. The chest of drawers is ready, and a DRUPAL-inspired coffee table was also created, so we load the car with Slowacki and go to Petrykozy once again.
This time we are welcomed by penne with tomato sauce, and since the kitchen is actually the first room that welcomes you to Maggie and David’s house, it is impossible to say no. You might be tempted to say that the house is as you find it as soon as you enter it. After all, the kitchen is a place for meetings, conversations, shared meals, altogether the most social and family place.
We bring a fat chest of drawers to the bathroom. Believe us or not – we have built this uniquely bespoke piece of furniture from a distance and despite the mundane bathroom obstacles such as pipes or a siphon, Michał only had to widen the opening for the washbasin drain. In any case, the chest of drawers fits perfectly, probably not only in terms of dimensions.
We hope to repeat the meeting at the ends of the world, perhaps with another piece of furniture. Because stories about furniture are also stories about people, and it’s the fact that we add chapters on our own that inspires us the most.
